Volunteers wanted!

Please see descriptions below for volunteer opportunities available. If you're interested please email, laura@pawsinthecity.org or sign up on our website

Transporters:

Most of our transports involve picking up a dog at Dallas Animal Services and taking him or her to one of our vets for a thorough entry exam.  Other transport requests involve taking a dog to a new foster or to an adoption event.  Transport requests are usually one-way.  By choosing to be a part of the transport team, you choose which requests you can accept and only select those that work with your location and schedule.  To sign up for this valuable team, please contactLaura Jobe, and she will add you to the list!

Transport Coordinators:

Availability during daytime hours to respond to email requests quickly.  Responsibilities include sending out email requests for transport to the transport team and following up with appropriate volunteers/divisions.

Videography Coordinator & Videography Volunteers:

Videos are very helpful in getting our dogs adopted.  The coordinator will create and build a network of videographers who will produce video features on our adoptable pets.  S/he will assign videographers to dogs and introduce the videographer to the foster to coordinate schedules, etc.   Right now, we have tons of photos and stories and currently need volunteers to create the videos. It may be necessary to meet up with a dog to gather some video footage. The Coordinator would ideally do video occasionally, but his or her main role would be to make sure all of our dogs get videos.
Home Check Volunteers:

PITC conducts home checks for all adopters and fosters, and team members throughout the Dallas area and surrounding cities are needed to perform these visits.  Whenever a home check is required, the request is sent to all team members; those able to conduct the visit near their home or work are asked to help at their convenience so that all areas of Dallas and surrounding cities are covered.  Training is minimal, and a simple checklist is provide to ensure each home is safe and appropriate for PITC animals. We have a strong need for volunteers that can do this in Arlington, Ft. Worth, Colleyville, etc.

Transitional Fosters:
Serve as short-term fosters for animals transitioning from kennel environment (usually strays) to a long-term foster home.  Ideally, volunteer should be home during the day to spend time with a dog, focusing on crate training, leash work, housetraining, etc.  Many of our regular fosters are unable to devote the time necessary for these training basics.  Dogs that are not used to a home environment will benefit from a transitional stage with a temporary foster who can help crate train him or her and show him/her the ropes before they go to their regular foster home.

Happy Tail Composition:

Write updates on animals that were adopted to be shared on the website, newsletter and social media.  You will contact adopters a month or so after adoption to obtain update and photos.  All updates will be forwarded to you if received by other volunteers.  You will take the update, add the history of the animal and use creative writing skills to creative a captivating happy tail (happy ending/update).
